NC’s 14th national convention kicks off in Kathmandu from today

The ruling party Nepali Congress (NC)’s 14th national convention is going to start from today. Inauguration for the same is slated at 1 am at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu.

All the preparation for the convention has been completed, the NC said. Prime Minister and NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba is scheduled to inaugurate the much-awaited national convention. According to NC office secretary Dr Pradeep Parajuli, the top-ranking leaders of NC as well as chiefs of other political parties and delegates from foreign countries are going to address the inauguration. The main stage for the inaugural session is built at Bhrikutimandap.

Participants from outside the Kathmandu Valley are not invited by the party due to risk of COVID-19. Only those coming to Kathmandu on their own and at their own risk will attend the inaugural. Five big display screens are installed outside the main stage for the spectators and audiences attending the event. Likewise, big sound systems are also put in place. The venue where the national convention will take place is decorated with the NC’s party’s flags including its election symbol- tree. Welcome gates are installed in and around the main venue. Likewise, seven display screens are installed and a big stage is built at Bhrikutimandap for closing session of the convention.

There are 4,700 representatives for the national convention who will elect new leadership during the three-day event. Majority of the representatives have already arrived Kathmandu. The NC party office said that the office has already distributed a bag with booklets containing details of the convention. The representatives will have their meal and snacks at Bhrikutimandap and are housed at various hotels in the vicinity.

The Nepal Police has arranged security for the convention while traffic police has been managing vehicles and vehicular activities in view of the event.
