HoR session : Lawmakers call for stricter legal measures for ending VAW

Kathmandu. Lawmakers have drawn the government’s attention to making the legal system stricter and ensuring harsh punishment for offenders to end violence against women.

Seeking time from the Speaker in the House of Representatives meeting today, they said that such arrangements had become unavoidable due to the increasing incidents of violence.

The MPs also drew the government’s attention to issues like road safety, preventing violence against women and girls, bringing back the bodies of those who died abroad, and providing immediate relief to disaster victims.

Ain Bahadur Mahar pointed out that citizens are losing their lives prematurely due to the negligence of drivers and bad condition of roads and vehicles, urging the government to pay attention to ensuring road safety.

Bipin Kumar Acharya said that the government should be serious about making arrangements for Nepalis abroad to come home for urgent work.

Pramila Kumari Gachchhadar demanded that the law on women’s security be immediately presented in the house and that the protection of girls be guaranteed.

Tika Sangraula suggested that since bringing back the bodies of Nepalis who die abroad has been a problem, the government should be sensitive and work on solving this issue permanently.

Manish Jha said that in Janakpur efforts are ongoing to remove encroachments from ponds having religious significance and emphasized that all kinds of encroachments need to be removed.

Likewise, MPs Shraddha Kunwar, Balawati Sharma, Santosh Rajbanshi, Khadak Bahadur Budha, Shahjan Khatun, Bharat Bahadur Khadka, Prem Bahadur Bayek, Sajida Khatun Siddhiqi, Prakash Pathak, Neenu Kumari Karna, Pramila Kuluju, Rabin Mahato, Hari Mohan Bhandari, and Som Sharma also drew attention of the parliament and the government to the need for impartial investigation and strict action regarding the issue of girl child killings, as well as other current issues.
