Representatives from tourism sector put views on Tourism Bill

Kathmandu . Stakeholders from the tourism sector have advised for incorporating several provisions ranging from insurance to the control of fake rescue.

During a meeting of the International Relations and Tourism Committee on the ‘Tourism Bill, 2081 BS’ today, they stressed the need for comprehensive polices aimed at the overall development of tourism sector.

Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) President Phur Gelje Sherpa said the Association has a network involving 2,260 climbers, workers and those people engaged in tourism promotion. He underlined the need to address the tourism sector’s problems in a comprehensive manner.

Trekking Agents Association of Nepal (TAAN) President Sagar Pandey said over 300,000 tourists undertake trekking activities in Nepal annually. He urged lawmakers to formulate laws that take into consideration the promotion and sustainable development of the trekking sector.

Everest (Sagarmatha) climber Maya Sherpa stressed that the state should ensure the protection and welfare of climbers. She also proposed to establish the ‘ Climbers Fund’. Representatives from the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association, Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee, Expedition Operators Association Nepal and other tourism related organisations presented their views and suggestions on the proposed Bill. The meeting was held under the Chair of Committee President Sumnima Udas.
