AFC Asian Cup group qualification campaign starts for a reinforced Nepal National team

Kathmandu: The race for the final 11 slots at the AFC Asian Cup™ 2023 gets underway on Wednesday with 24 teams across the six groups. 1980 champions Kuwait host Group A where they will be joined by Indonesia, Jordan and Nepal.

The hosts of the group Kuwait had previously competed alongside Jordan and Nepal, and will now be joined by Indonesia for the three match-days, with the winners, as well as the best five runners-up from the six groups, advancing to the Finals.

Nepal, the lowest-ranked team in the group, will put their hopes of qualifying for the AFC Asian Cup for the first time in their history to the test, but they will have their work cut out for them as they face a Jordanian side that has crushed the previous four meetings with a 16-1 total score.

Two second-half goals secured the three points for Jordan in a 2-0 victory over Nepal on Match-day One of Group A of the AFC Asian Cup 2023™ Qualifiers Final Round at Jaber Al Ahmad Stadium on Wednesday.

Jordan took an early lead in Group A with the win, with Indonesia level on points with the West Asians following their 2-1 win against Kuwait in the match kicked off earlier.

Nepal will be facing the host nation on Saturday which will be there second game of the campaign.
