History of plane crash in Nepal: More than 850 deaths due to more than 52 crashes.

Kathmandu: Tara Air’s twin-engine ‘9N-AET’ in route to Jomsom from Pokhara has been crashed in an accident at Thasang-2 in Mustang today. The plane had been out of contact since Sunday morning. There were 22 passengers on board, including three crew members.

This is not the first plane crash in Nepal. Nepal’s skies have suffered many accidents before.

Many lives have been lost in such accidents. During that period, more than 850 people were killed in plane and helicopter accidents in Nepal.

The first plane crash in Nepal was on May 7, 1946. No casualties were reported when the Royal Force Air plane crashed.

The first human casualty was in 1955, two people were killed when a flight of Kalinga Air crashed.

Similarly, 14 people lost their lives when an Indian Airlines plane crashed in Kathmandu in 1956. A plane of Indian Airlines had also crashed the following year in Nepal in 1957. Twenty people died when the Indian Airlines carrier crashed in Tika Bhairav. Less than a year later, in 1958, another Indian Airlines plane crashed in Nepal, killing 20 people. In 1960 Nepal Airlines plane crashed killing four passengers in an accident in Bhairahawa. Another plane crash of Nepal Airlines was noted in Dhorpatan in 1962, where 10 people lost their lives. In the same year, another Nepal Airlines plane crashed in Dhorpatan, resulting in a death of 6 people.

In 1969 another flight from Nepal Airlines was found crashed and 35 people were found dead.  One year later, in 1970, a Nepal Airlines plane crashed in Delhi, one of the passengers lost their life.

Royal Light met with a crash in Jomsom in 1970. One person was found dead in the accident. Two years later, Royal Light crashed in Dhulikhel, where 31 people lost their lives.

5 people died when a Nepal Airlines plane crashed in Kathmandu in 1975, and 6 died in a crash in Meghalaya in 1976. In 1979, 6 people were killed in a crash in Langtang.

The Nepal Airlines plane had crashed in Biratnagar in 1981 that claimes the lives of 10. In the 1984 Nepal Airlines crash in Bhojpur 15 people died. Another Nepal Army plane crash in Nepal in 1985 killed 25 people.

AThai Airlines carrier crashed in Nepal in 1992 claiming the lives of 113 people as it met with an  in the accident in Rasuwa. The flight from Pakistan Airlines had crashed the same year at Bhattedanda in Lalitpur. A total of 167 people died in the accident.

18 people were killed when an Everest Air flight crashed in 1992 and two people were found dead when a Nepal Airlines plane crashed in 1995.

A flight from Karnali Air had crashed in 1997 killing 1 person. The Lumbini-Air plane had crashed in in 1998 where 18 people lost their lives.

The Asian Airlines plane crashed in 1998, 3 people were dead in the accident in Solukhumbu. In the same year, a Nepal Airlines flight crashed in Solu, killing 1 person.

Necon Airlines plane crashed in Jumla in 1999. 5 people were were found dead in the accident

Nepal Airlines plane crash inDadeldhura in 2000 killed 25 people. Four people were found dead when a Fistail Air helicopter crashed into Rara Lake in 2001.

Similarly, Skyline’s flight crashed in Surkhet in 2002. 4 people were killed in the accident. The Sangrila Airlines plane crashed in 2002, where 18 people died in the accident in Kaski.

A flight from Yeti Airlines crashed in Lamjung in 2004. 3 people died in the incident. Air Dynasty’s plane crashed in 2005. 3 people were found dead in the accident.

The Yeti Airlines plane crashed in 2006. Nine people lost their in the accident in Jumla. In the same year, another flight from Yeti Airlines crashed in Lukla. 19 people were found dead in the accident.

Agni Air’s flight crashed in 2010 where 14 people died in an accident in Makwanpur.

A flight from Tara Air’s had crashed in Okhaldhunga in 2011. 22 people were found dead in the accident. In the same year, Buddha Air’s plane crashed in Lalitpur, where 19 people died in the accident.

Agni Air’s plane crashed in Jomsom in 2012, where 15 people died in the accident. In the same year, 19 people lost their lives when a flight from Sita Air crashed in Kathmandu.

A Nepal Airlines flight had crashed in Arghakhanchi in 2014, where 18 people were found dead. In 2015, a US military helicopter crashed. The helicopter crashed while being deployed in post-earthquake relief and rescue operations. 13 people lost their lives in the accident.

In 2015, another helicopter crashed in Nepal, where 4 people lost their lives in the accident. At least 23 people were found dead when a flight from Tara Air crashed in 2016.

At least 51 people were found dead when a US-Bangla Airlines plane crashed at Tribhuvan International Airport in 2018. That same year, an Altitude Air helicopter crashed in Nuwakot, where people lost their lives in the helicopter crash. In the year 2018, a flight of Makalu Air had crashed in Simikot, where 2 people died in the accident.

An Air Dynasty helicopter crashed in Sisnevir, Taplejung in 2019, where 7 people were found dead. That same year, 3 people lost their lives when a Summit Air plane crashed at Lukla Airport.
