Rapper Balen crosses 10,000 votes for Mayor of Kathmandu
Kathmandu: Balendra Shah, an independent candidate for mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, continues to surprise people watching the results of the local elections on Friday.
Shah further extended his lead on Tuesday. He had 10,797 votes as of 11 a.m. on Tuesday. With 5,787 votes, his nearest challenger, CPN-Keshav UML’s Sthapit, is in second place. Similarly, Sirjana Singh of the Nepali Congress is in third place with 5,074 votes.
With well over 300,000 eligible voters, Kathmandu is the largest metropolitan metropolis. According to the electoral commission, voter turnout in Kathmandu Metropolitan City was roughly 64%, or about 192,000 votes.
