Rs 121.97 billion allocated for energy sector

The government has allocated Rs 121.97 billion budget for energy sector for the fiscal year 2021/22.
The government has announced to link 629 megawatt electricity developed from the government and private sectors in the national grid in the fiscal year 2021/22.
While reading out the budget speech for the fiscal year 2021/22, Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel said that the power from Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower, Rasuwagadhi, Rahughat and some others being developed from the government and from the private sector would be linked to the national grid.
Minister Poudel also said that the hydropower projects would be encouraged to expedite the construction works.
Similarly, the government has prioritized the development of semi-reservoir and reservoir-based hydropower projects as well.
Likewise, energy efficiency programme has been included in the budget speech while economically underprivileged citizens would have an access to free electricity installation.
