Kathmandu : The Ministry of Finance has urged the Ministries not to propose new projects in the budget of the coming year 2078/79.

The Ministry of Finance has requested not to propose new projects in the discussions held with all the ministries today (Monday) to formulate the upcoming budget.

The Ministry of Finance has urged the ministries to complete the projects of the previous fiscal year on time rather than proposing the budget for the new projects. During the discussion, Chief Joint Secretary of the Budget Division of the Ministry of Finance, Dhaniram Sharma, urged to complete the project of the previous fiscal year with priority and formulate a plan accordingly.

He said that projects that should not be taken forward can be taken forward by proposing for study.

The Ministry of Finance has decided to make a plan only after a tripartite discussion on the conditional grant to be provided by the government. As the implementation of the conditional grant project has not been effective and no one has taken ownership, the Ministry of Finance will move ahead only after discussing with the concerned ministry and the states, said Sharma.

The Ministry of Finance has urged to adopt austerity in operating expenses as well. The ministries have been urged not to increase the budget as the government will not increase the operational budget in the next budget.

In the pre-budget discussions, secretaries, planning and program heads of various ministries had their views on their ministries.
