Kathmandu: A second memorial day will be observed in the memory of senior leftist leader and former deputy prime minister and finance minister Bharat Mohan Adhikari.

CPN (Maoist) Chairman and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal is the chief guest at the memorial meeting organized by Bharat Mohan Adhikari’s Smriti Foundation and co-organized by Bishnumaya Library in Biratgarh on Tuesday. Nepal is also the patron of the foundation.

On the occasion, Lima Adhikari, daughter of the Foundation member and official, informed that the late Adhikari will discuss the contribution made by the Left Movement in Nepal’s political transformation, political economy and social transformation.

Adhikari, who was born to father Ram Chandra and mother Purna Kumari in Bhramarpura, Mahottari on April 7, 1993, died at the age of two on March 20, 2075. Adhikari had studied law and economics in depth. Adhikari, who has an MA in Economics and a BL in Law, was a well-known lawyer during the Panchayat period.

Adhikari had made significant contribution in the drafting of the constitution by being in the constitution drafting committee of 4047 BS. In 2051 BS, Bharat Mohan was the Finance Minister in the popular minority government led by Manmohan Adhikari.

Adhikari himself had started the work of sending money directly to every local level through the Make Your Own Village program. Similarly, the old people still reverently remember the officer who started the work of giving old age allowance and social security allowance.

Adhikari became a Member of Parliament four times and a Minister five times after the political changes of 2046 BS. He has never been involved in controversy, even when he has repeatedly joined the government.
