15 militants killed in attacks in S. Afghanistan
Kathmandu : Fifteen Taliban militants were killed during security forces’ attacks in Afghan restive southern Kandahar province, the country’s Ministry of Defense confirmed on Thursday.
“Taliban aggregated in surrounding areas of Dand and Arghandab district on Wednesday. They approached the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) positions before the ANDSF attacked militants’ side.
As a result, 15 militants were killed,” the ministry said in a statement.
Three militants were wounded during the attacks when the Afghan Air Force supported the ground forces, the statement added.
A car bomb from the militants, three motorcycles, three fighting positions and an amount of weapons and ammunition were destroyed, according to the statement.
Security situation has been improving in Kandahar, the former stronghold of Taliban, over the past months, as security forces have conducted search and cordon operations across the province.
But the militants attack government interests in the province from time to time. The ANDSF also found and defused 110 rounds of landmines and improvised bombs in Arghandab and neighboring Panjwahee district in recent days, according to the statement.
The militant group has yet to make comments on the report.
