Kathmandu : Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation on Monday laid foundation of Provincial Infectious Disease Hospital in Dharan. The hospital with 50 beds is being developed at Sundaharaicha in the land plot of BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS).

On the occasion, Vice Chancellor of BPKIHS Prof Dr Gyanendra Giri, Social Development Minister of Province 1 Hikmat Karki and others were present.

Registrar of BPKIHS Prof Dr Mohan Chandra Regmi said that the hospital would provide specialized health care service on infectious diseases to the people of Province 1.

The hospital is being constructed as per the federal government’s policy to establish a 50-bed infectious disease control hospital in each province after the outbreak of the corona virus disease.

Prior to this, the 44th Senate Meeting of BPKIHS had decided to provide its land plot for the hospital building at Sundarharaicha.
The federal government shall provide budget to the province government for the hospital construction, Registrar Prof Dr Regmi shared.

For this, the federal government has allocated Rs 80 million for the development of the hospital in this fiscal year.

After the completion of the hospital, a joint technical team from the province government and BPKIHS would operate and manage the hospital. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the province government and BPKIHS to this regard on Monday.
