16 militants killed in E. Afghanistan

Kathmandu : A total of 16 militants have been confirmed dead as Afghan forces stormed Taliban hideouts in Khogiani and Shirzad districts of the eastern Nangarhar province on Thursday, said a statement of the provincial government released here Friday.

The operations, according to the statement, were conducted late Thursday night in Akram Khil area of Khogiani district and Hashim Khil area of Shirzad district and in total left 16 dead including five group commanders.

Two hideouts and two checkpoints of the militants were also destroyed during the raids, the statement asserted. The Taliban outfit has yet to make comments.
