Kathmandu : The residents of Chhatradev Rural Municipality-2 and 4 in the district have been elated as they received landownership certificates after 18 years.

Their landownership certificates were burnt down when the then CPN (Maoist) attacked the district headquarters in 2059 BS during the insurgency. Six hundred fifty houses at Balkot of the Rural Municipality-2 and 1,186 houses at Kerunga of the rural Municipality-4 have got the landownership certificates.

A team from the District Survey Office launched a drive to distribute the document in 31 wards in the district, said the Survey Office Chief Khim Rana.

“We were like landless squatters for not having landownership certificates. It deprived us of our right to sell lands or take bank loans. Now we are happy to have it,” said a landowner Hari Prasad Khanal.
