Over 8,000 thatched roofs replaced with zinc sheet in Gulmi

Kathmandu : As many as 8,000 houses with thatched roof in various 12 local units in Gulmi have been replaced with corrugated zinc sheets.

Families with poor economic background in the district were benefitted with the government’s campaign – Safe Citizen Housing Programme.

More than 550 houses with such roofs in Dhurkot Rural Municipality received the grant to install roof made up of zinc sheets. Over Rs 20 million was spent for purchasing zinc corrugated sheets, according to Dhurkot Rural Municipality Chair Bhupal Pokharel.

People living in the houses with thatched roof are vulnerable to natural disasters such as fire and heavy rain. Pokharel said that they had promised the locals to replace their thatched roof with zinc sheet during the last election. He is elated that his leadership could deliver their promise.

Similarly, a total of 993 households in Musikot Municipality had received the grant for the same. A total of Rs 40 million has been spent to procure zinc corrugated sheet so far, informed Sapkota.

Likewise, 1,047 households in Malika Rural Municipality have been benefited with the government scheme. Almost of the impoverished families in the district have come under the coverage of this scheme, it was shared.
