State-1 sees first pandemic death

State-1 has seen the first COVID-19 death. An elderly patient undergoing treatment at Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences succumbed to the coronavirus.

The victim is however from State-2. Ramkrishna Das, 73, from Rajbiraj Municipality-1 of Saptari district was suffering from diabetes and other ailments, said Deputy Spokesperson of BPKIHS, Dr. Ashok Aiyar. The deceased was hospitalized at BPKIHS on Wednesday.

After testing positive for COVID-19, he was treated at the isolation ward. According to Chief of the Area Administration Office, Dharan, Chandra Bahadur Karki, it was decided to bury the deceased one in the Saptari side of Koshi Barrage.

Nepal Army made the arrangement to this regard. Meanwhile, as of Friday morning, State-1 recorded 774 cases of COVID-19- 647 male and 127 female. According to the Corona Information Desk of the State-1 government, out of 14 districts in the state, Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari and Udayapur top the COVID-19 chart with 303, 194, 106 and 77 respectively.

Districts with double digits of the cases include Dhankuta, Khotang, Okhaldhunga and Ilam with cases of 12, 11, 16 and 22 respectively. Likewise, districts with single digit of COVID-19 cases are Taplejung (8), Panchthar (6), Terhathum (5), Sankhuwasabha (5), Bhojpur (6) and Solukhumbu (1).

Two cases are from other states.
