Iranian lawmaker dies of COVID-19

Isa Jafari, representative of Iranian towns of Bahar and Kabudarahang in the parliament, on Monday died of the novel coronavirus, Aftab news reported.

Jafari was the third lawmaker who died after winning a seat in the parliament (Majlis) in February’s elections. Fatemeh Rahbar, a lawmaker from the capital Tehran, and Mohammad Ali Ramezani, a lawmaker from northern Gilan Province, were two other new parliamentarians who died after February’s elections.

The virus has also claimed the lives of a number of other Iranian politicians. Iran announced its first cases of COVID-19 on Feb. 19.

On Monday, the number of coronavirus infections inIran totalled 259,652, including 13,032 deaths.
