The Supreme Court has given clean-chit to six soccer players including then national football team captain Sagar Thapa, who were convicted of match-fixing by the lower court.

A divisional bench of justice duo Dr Ananda Mohan Bhattarai and Bam Kumar Shrestha gave clean chit upholding the special court order. Among the clean chit recipients are former national football team captain Thapa, vice-captain Sandeep Rai, goal keepers Ritesh Thapa and Bikash Singh Chhetri and players Anjan KC and David Thapa.

It may be noted that the Criminal Investigation Bureau of the Nepal Police in 2015 had arrested and subsequently filed a case against the footballers at special court on state offense for allegedly involved in match-fixing in international football matches with different countries.

The special court had already given them clean-chit.
