Gun battle kills 7 including 3 police in N. Afghanistan

Seven fighters including three police and four insurgents have been killed as clash erupted in Ali Abad district of northern Kunduz province on Sunday, district governor Amanudin Qurishi said.

A group of Taliban militants attacked security checkpoints in Kisatopak area of the restive district at 3:00 a.m. local time on Sunday and police retaliated forcing the militants to flee after leaving four bodies behind. Three police personnel have also been killed and four others wounded in the fighting, the official confirmed.

The security forces would continue to chase the militants in Ali Abad and its vicinity, the official further said. Taliban militants have not commented.
